Drilling Compressed Air & Gas Systems FAQ
Air and gas are support systems, not accessories: the wrong pressure or the wrong gas type stops a hole. These answers explain how Jinneng's C-Series diesel air compressors, E-Series VFD electric compressors, V-Series high-pressure boosters and N-Series mobile nitrogen generators are selected against a rig's manifold, drilling method and site conditions.
Compressed Air & Gas Systems FAQ
Why do drilling rigs need a compressed air or gas system?
Consistent, high-quality compressed air or nitrogen is the lifeblood of a drilling operation — poor air quality or insufficient pressure leads to bit wear, hole collapse and costly downtime. Jinneng's air/gas systems are engineered to match our core (CSD), large-diameter (CMD) and multi-purpose (CMR) rigs.
Which air or gas system do I need?
It depends on the application:
- C-Series diesel air compressors (Cummins/Volvo engines, 15–40 bar, with high-altitude/low-temperature packages) — rugged, self-contained air for core and large-diameter drilling.
- E-Series VFD electric air compressors (75–78 dB(A) low noise, IP55 rated, energy-efficient, E1070–E1300H) — for noise-restricted or grid-powered sites where diesel is restricted.
- V-Series high-pressure booster compressors (Volvo engines, up to 350 bar discharge, customizable flow) — boost existing air for efficient cuttings removal and cooling in deep holes.
- N-Series mobile nitrogen generators (purity 95%–99.9% adjustable, 42–1,200 Nm³/h, 2–35 MPa) — continuous on-site nitrogen for drilling.
When do I need a booster compressor?
When standard compressor pressure is insufficient for deep-hole DTH or large-diameter work. Boosters take existing air pressure and raise it to extreme levels (up to 350 bar), ensuring efficient cuttings removal and cooling in deep operations.
What is nitrogen used for in drilling?
Nitrogen is used for DTH hammer drilling, air-lift reverse circulation and underbalanced drilling where an inert, oxygen-free gas is required to prevent combustion, oxidation or formation damage. The N-Series delivers on-site, adjustable purity to suit the formation.
Can a diesel compressor work at high altitude or low temperature?
Yes — the C-Series offers dedicated high-altitude and low-temperature packages, so performance is maintained on the Tibetan plateau or in cold-climate projects.
How do these systems match the drilling rigs?
Every system is designed as matching support equipment for the CORTECH® portfolio — full-hydraulic core rigs, large-diameter rigs and multi-function rigs — so pressure, flow and gas type are specified against the rig's manifold and drilling method (air, mud, foam, reverse circulation).
