Mobility, Logistics & Selection

Truck-mounted vs crawler rig — which do I need?

Truck-mounted rigs (e.g. CMD130 on a 10×8 carrier at 54.5 t legal weight) move fast between sites without heavy haulage; crawler rigs (e.g. CSD1300L) self-relocate over rough terrain.

In-Seam Directional Drilling (ZYL)

What is an in-seam directional drilling rig (ZYL)?

The ZYL series drills long-range boreholes entirely within the coal seam, rather than through surrounding rock. It is the proven method for maximizing methane (coalbed gas) extraction, preventing rock bursts, and safeguarding longwall operations. ZYL rigs are MA-certified (the ZYL-6000D also carries the CE Mark) and field-proven in more than 200 high-gas mines across Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and international basins.

Why drill in-seam instead of cross-measure?

Because the borehole stays 100% in the target seam, in-seam drilling delivers 30–50% higher gas flow rates; lower torque resistance (no hard rock) means longer tool life and lower energy use; integrated MWD holds trajectory deviation to ≤1% over 1,500 m; and it reduces hole-collapse risk in soft, gassy seams.

Which applications do ZYL rigs cover?

Coalbed methane drainage, rock-burst (outburst) prevention and stress relief ahead of longwall faces, methane monitoring, water detection, and grouting in underground coal mines — from shallow monitoring (around 400 m) to ultra-deep drainage beyond 1,500 m.

How do I choose between the ZYL models?

Match depth and roadway clearance to the model:

  • ZYL-6000D — 600 m, dual-torque (4,000/6,000 N·m), self-propelled crawler, no external transport.
  • ZYL-7500D — 500 m in low-headroom roadways under 3 m (1,550 mm height, under 7 t).
  • ZYL-8000D — 1,000 m rock-burst prevention with an integrated mud pump for remote mines; 8,000 N·m.
  • ZYL-9000D — 1,000 m in soft, outburst-prone seams; 9,000 N·m adaptive torque; modular split-structure under 3.8 m roadways.
  • ZYL-15000D — 1,500 m high-rate methane drainage; 15,000 N·m continuous torque; co-developed with the China Coal Research Institute (CCRI).
  • ZYL-18000D — 1,500 m+ ultra-deep, high-stress gassy seams; 18,000 N·m industry-leading torque.

What certifications do ZYL rigs carry?

The ZYL series is MA-certified for underground service, and the ZYL-6000D also carries the CE Mark. For coal-mine projects outside China, confirm the required local mine-safety approval with our export team.

How is borehole trajectory controlled?

Through integrated MWD (Measurement While Drilling) and intelligent feed/torque control, holding deviation to ≤1% over 1,500 m and keeping the hole stable in soft, gassy or fractured seams.

Can ZYL rigs be customized for a specific mine?

Yes. Models are available as crawler-mounted, self-propelled or modular split-structure configurations (some transportable through roadways under 3–3.8 m wide), with options such as dual-torque, integrated pumping or remote operation.
