Oil Well Workover Rig & Smart Mine Drilling Solutions
Oil & Gas Drilling — The Challenge and the CORTECH® Solution
Mature oilfields and modern mines share the same operational problem: the work that keeps production flowing — well workover, sidetracking, and underground drilling — is still too often done by hand, on the rig floor, in high-risk conditions, with data that cannot be traced.
CORTECH® builds drilling and workover equipment for exactly these two environments. On the oil side, our oil well workover rigs replace manual rig-floor labor with automated tubular handling, electro-hydraulic dual control and remote, unmanned operation. On the mine side, we deliver complete automated, explosion-proof drilling fleets that run under remote monitoring and stream every hole to the cloud.
Both lines are engineered for harsh service — high-temperature, high-corrosion wells and gassy, complex underground mines — and backed by verified field results, not marketing claims. And because the CMD series is offered across the full large-diameter line, we can tell you plainly where it fits and where it does not: in oilfield service the CMD rigs are the shallow-reservoir workhorses, not deep-well drilling machines.
Application Areas & Suitable Rig Models
This hub covers two closely related, automation-driven applications:
Oil well workover & sidetrack
The DW20 automated integrated drilling-and-workover rig is a fully electro-hydraulic dual-control unit with an automatic tubular-handling system, remote operating platform and per-well data traceability. It handles drilling, workover, sidetrack and re-perforating on a single machine, built for high-temperature, high-corrosion mature-field service — and it has been rolled out across multiple blocks of the Daqing Oilfield, one of China's largest mature fields.
Smart-mine automated drilling fleets
The CMD series multi-function underground rigs (represented by the CMD60L workhorse), paired with automated core rigs (CSD3000) and high-pressure air compressors, are rated for underground explosive-gas environments, with intelligent control, remote monitoring, automatic rod make-up/breakout and cloud-connected data upload. A complete Shendong package has now run more than 8,000 hours underground with no major failure.
Rig selection for oilfield drilling
The CMD large-diameter family covers the oilfield work that sits within its power envelope. Selection turns on three things — power package, deployment route and hole program:
| Model | Power | Configuration | Oilfield role |
|---|---|---|---|
| CMD100 | 559 kW | Truck-mounted full hydraulic top drive, 55 t | Shallow oil reservoir development wells and large-diameter completion holes; fastest mobilization between well sites |
| CMD130 | 567 kW | Truck-mounted 10×8 chassis, 54.5 t legal road weight | Deeper shallow-reservoir wells and larger-diameter holes where pullback and torque reserve matter; 820 mm maximum drilling diameter |
| CMD130L | 563 kW | Crawler, diesel, 60 t, 18° gradeability | Field sites with no road access — the tracked chassis walks to the wellhead; also the smart-mine underground workhorse |
| CMD130DL | 400 kW electric | Crawler, electric, 60 t | Low-emission oilfield and mine sites, urban-adjacent pads, and underground workings where diesel exhaust is a constraint |
| CMD150 / CMD180 | Modular, dual-engine | Fully modular, helicopter- or truck-bed transportable | Remote pads and inaccessible fields where modules can be flown or trucked in and pin-connected on site |
Application limit — please read before quoting. In oilfield service the CMD series is a shallow oil reservoir rig: the power package above (559 / 567 / 563 / 400 kW) sets a practical drilling depth of around 3,000 m. Within that envelope the CMD rigs are efficient and economical to run. Wells deeper than that call for a heavy-duty rig, which is outside our product range — tell us your target depth and we will confirm the fit rather than quote a machine that cannot reach it.
Representative Case Studies From This Hub
Two real field deployments. Select a case for the full record:
1. Automated Workover Rig Oil Well Sidetrack — DW20 at Daqing Oilfield
- Context
- The Daqing Oilfield is well into its late development stage, with a large population of mature wells and heavy demand for workover and sidetracking. Conventional workover rigs rely on manual operation — extremely labour-intensive, slow, prone to safety accidents, and unable to trace construction data — which cannot meet the oilfield's push toward smart, efficient operations.
- Setup
- The DW20 automated integrated drilling-and-workover rig, built on a fully electro-hydraulic dual-control design with automatic tubular handling, a remote operating platform, and a data acquisition and traceability system. It adapts to a wide range of oilfield conditions and completes workover, sidetracking and re-perforating on old wells with far less manual involvement.
- Result
- Since entering service, single-well workover cycle time has been cut by 50%, manning reduced by 60%, and safety accidents reduced to zero, with stable and reliable operation. The equipment has since been promoted across multiple Daqing blocks, supporting the intelligent upgrade of oilfield workover operations.

2. Smart Mine Automated Drilling Rig Fleet — CMD60L + CSD3000 at Shendong
- Context
- The Shendong mining area is a core Chinese coal production base with complex geology, high gas content and harsh underground conditions. Manual drilling was labour-intensive, safety-critical, slow and untraceable — unable to meet smart-mine requirements for headcount reduction, safety control and data traceability.
- Setup
- A complete equipment package: CMD60L multi-function automated drilling rig, CSD3000 automated core drilling rig and Hurricane-series high-pressure air compressors. All units carry intelligent control systems, remote monitoring, automatic rod make-up/breakout and automatic drilling-parameter optimization, enabling automatic parameter optimization, unmanned operation, remote control, real-time data upload and cloud storage — all rated for explosion-proof underground environments.
- Result
- More than 8,000 cumulative running hours since commissioning with no major failure, running stable and reliable, with drilling efficiency up more than 40%. Underground headcount was reduced, site safety improved, and the package has become a benchmark for smart-mine drilling equipment in coal exploration, gas control and water-hazard prevention.
